EndNote 21

Download error override

To allow the EndNote download from UniSC Software Centre on your Mac, you will need to adjust your Security & Privacy settings to allow apps downloaded from "Anywhere" or "App Store and identified developers".

The process in a nutshell:

1. Open System Settings

  • Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen.
  • Select "System Settings".

2. Navigate to Privacy & Security:

  • Click "Privacy & Security" in the sidebar.

3. Access Security Settings:

  • Scroll down to the "Security" section.
  • If necessary, click the lock icon in the bottom left corner and enter your password to make changes.

4. Adjust Download Permissions:

  • Under "Allow apps downloaded from:", choose one of the following options:
    • "App Store and identified developers": This is the most secure option, only allowing apps from the App Store and developers verified by Apple.
    • "Anywhere": This allows apps from any source, including those not from the App Store, which can pose security risks.

The EndNote installer on UniSC Software Centre is controlled by UniSC IT. It was checked by IT for suitability and threats. This may explain why it is not considered to by an identified developer.

Notes

Be aware, when you first download EndNote 21 onto a Mac, the Cite While You Write option may not work. Go into Microsoft Word > EndNote tab > Preferences > Application > EndNote. This changes the connection between Word and EndNote from online to desktop.
