Endnote 21

Online Search

Online Search  (at the bottom of the Groups pane) allows you to directly search a remote server (peer-to-peer) and import references you find there directly into your Endnote library. This is a very fast and efficient way to find books and import their references as hundred of the world's major libraries are searchable.

It is also a good way to search the PubMed database and import its records.

Use major libraries to find records for almost any published book, for example:

  • Library of Congress- one of the world'd largest libraries
  • Libraries Australia- holdings of most Australian libraries, including UniSC
  • University of Queensland, Sydney, NSW, Melbourne etc etc.
  • For UniSC Catalogue - see the box at the bottom of this page

Add Libraries to your Online Search group

  • Tools>Connection files> Open Connection Manager
  • Check boxes next to databases you wish to search
  • Close the  Manager box
  • Chosen targets should appear in your Online Search group

Do a search

  • Click the Library or database name in Online Search
  • Your Search box at top of screen will have menu options matching your database options
  • Enter search terms and Search
  • Check boxes next to references you want to keep and Click the Plus sign

UniSC Library Catalogue Search

You can use Online Search (Groups pane) to search the UniSC Library catalogue and download records into Endnote.

Unfortunately, the file to search the UniSC catalogue is not a standard inclusion with Endnote, but follow these steps to install the connection file and use it to import catalogue records and journal article references.

Install the file

On your personal PC or Mac

  • Check in Endnote where your Endnote styles folder sits.  (Probably at C:\Program Files\Endnote or Documents\Endnote\Styles)
    • References > Preferences > Folder Locations > Style Folder. This will give the name and location of your Endnote folder.
  • If there is not a Connections folder in it, create it:
    • Use the naming format EndNote\Connections.
  • Download the connection file (link below) and save it into this Styles folder.  Endnote will now look in this folder for the correct style.
  • In Endnote top menu: Tools > Connection Files > Open Connection Manager
  • Scroll down and check box for "U_Sunshine_Coast"
  • Close the Connections manager box

"U Sunshine Coast" should now appear in the pop-up list as a search option.

On UniSC managed machines

The File is included in the installation.

  • In Endnote top menu: Tools >Connection Files > Open Connection Manager
  • Scroll down and check box for "U_Sunshine_Coast"
  • Close the Connections manager box

"U Sunshine Coast" should now appear in the pop-up list as a search option.
