Critical Thinking - getting to the truth

Critical Thinking is one of your Graduate Attributes at USC.

Question: What is Critical Thinking?

Answer: Your ability to think actively about information, a situation or decision, to see relationships and links, and separate fact from fiction.  You will not automatically accept what you see and hear as truth.

If you think critically, you will be able to:

  • question and evaluate what you see and hear
  • identify relationships and connections
  • draw conclusions based on evidence and facts
  • apply your new understanding in different situations

Critical thinking can help you:

  • make better decisions
  • gain a deeper understanding of a subject
  • make your own judgements about a situation
  • function better in the workplace, university and life.
