Research skills tutorial

Your guide to success!

3.1 Types of information sources

Through the University of the Sunshine Coast Library, you can access a wide variety of information sources including:

  • Dictionaries
  • Encyclopedias
  • Books
  • Electronic databases (indexes and full text)
  • Journals, magazines and newspapers (available in print or electronically via databases)
  • Course readings
  • Statistics
  • Local Planning documents
  • Videos (DVDs and streamed) and CD ROMS
  • Websites relating to courses studied at the University of the Sunshine Coast

Before deciding where to look for information you need to consider what type of information you need.

You will use a different approach if researching for a lengthy analytical essay than you would if you were writing a 500 word overview.  This is because the amount of information and the depth of information you need will be different.
