Mathematical operations

In maths, the four basic operations — addition, subtraction, multiplication and division — are the building blocks of most calculations.

It's important to know how these operations work on their own, but also how they interact when used together. For example, solving an expression like 3 + 4 × 2 requires understanding the correct order in which to do each step.

This resource will help you build confidence with each operation and guide you through using the correct order of operations (often remembered with BEMA: Brackets, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction) when solving more complex problems.
