Maths for bioscience

One number, multiple formats (fractions, decimals and percentages)

In maths, we can represent a single number in multiple ways (as a fraction, decimal or percentage).

Sometimes, it is more helpful to express the number in a particular way. For example, you may receive 18/25 on an assignment, but it can be more meaningful to write this as a percentage (72%).

You need to be able to convert between formats. For example, it is much easier to calculate 5% of 20 if you convert 5% to a decimal first (0.05).

The video below discusses how to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as how to round numbers.
