Course Readings

Course Readings enables the course coordinator to develop a reading list within a Canvas course site and submit to the Library for processing. A reading list may include book chapters, journal articles, streaming videos, websites and other online content.

Reserve Collection

Prescribed texts and material specifically requested by Course Coordinators are kept in the Reserve Collection at each library. Items in the Reserve Collection can be borrowed by students for 2 hours, or borrowed by academic staff for teaching.

If it's in a database

• check that we have access to the full text
• help students learn search techniques - give them a reference to the article, to search through the library catalogue
  • it's easier for students to find a reference in the catalogue than if they are told to go to a specific database
• give a link to the article in a database
  • it breaches copyright to load a .pdf of a published item (including images) straight on to Canvas
  • create a doi or ezyproxy link - the links in the address bar can be unstable. If you'd like some help, contact your Liaison Librarian.

If it's an article or chapter from a print item

• put it in Course Readings
  • students can find it in the catalogue
  • or we'll give you a link for your Canvas course

Remember! Copyright prevents you putting a .pdf of a published item on Canvas
