Endnote

Reference management software for your research

Use Endnote on campus

USC network PCs generally have Endnote installed already (including all computer lab machines).

USC staff and research postgraduates: If your USC PC (or Mac) does not appear to have Endnote installed, contact IT Services  (x1237) and they will deploy it to your machine.

Start Endnote:

Some campus computers will have an Endnote icon on the bottom taskbar. If not click Start and choose Endnote Program from the program list.

Synchronize installations

You can synchronize your library across several machines and using Endnote Online

To enable Sync.
There are two methods of registration:
Note: always use your USC email address in your Sync preferences.  Do not use your Gmail, Hotmail etc.

You can only sync ONE library.

1.In EndNote, from the main Library window, click the Sync button that appears in the toolbar to open an Endnote Online Login dialog. Click the Sign Up button to begin the registration and activation process. Follow the online instructions.
2.In EndNote, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences > Sync Preferences. Click the Enable Sync button to go to the EndNote Web Login dialog. Click the Sign Up button to begin the registration and activation process. Follow the online instructions.

The record numbers will be preserved between the two desktop computers when using the Synchronization process.

Install on your own computer

The University has a site licence for Endnote. You may install Endnote on your own PC as long as you are a current staff member or student at USC.

NOTE: You will be invited to sign up to Endnote Online as part of the installation process. This is optional and not strictly essential to most functions of Endnote. But it is highly recommended as :

  • it allows you to easily share references with colleagues (or students)
  • it can be useful if you are away from your computer but have internet access
  • allows you sync your Endnote  library on multiple machines (including iPads)
  • speeds up the full-text retrieval feature

IMPORTANT: Do not sign up to Endnote Online unless you are on a USC campus as the wrong settings will be applied. See the instructions on our Endnote Online Libguide before you sign up to Endnote Online.
