This new set of guiding principles for Education in Australia, the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration, was endorsed by all Ministers of Education on December 12, 2019.
Mparntwe (pronounced M-ban tua) is the Arrernte name for Alice Springs. The Aboriginal Arrernte (pronounced arrunda) peoples are the traditional custodians of Alice Springs and the surrounding region. (Source: The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration).
The Adelaide Declaration on National Goals for Schooling in the Twenty-First Century published by the Education Council sets out three major goals of State, Territory and Commonwealth Ministers of Education aimed at improving schooling outcomes for Australian children in social, cultural and economic terms; goal 3.3 relates specifically to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; goal 3.4 relates to the teaching of Indigenous studies.(Source: National Library of Australia catalogue record.)
