Software for downloading eBooks

Before you can download an eBook on your computer or laptop, you need to install Adobe Digital Editions. Adobe Digital Editions is a software program that enables you to read and manage eBooks and other digital publications on your device. With the program you are able to:

  • Download eBooks in ePUB or PDF format to read offline for a loan period
  • Organise eBooks in a personal library
  • Bookmark pages and add notes
  • Transfer eBooks to other devices e.g. from computer to mobile

If you are downloading an eBook Academic Collection (EBSCO) eBook you are able to create an account EBSCO that is linked to your USC student account. You will be prompted through these steps.

Web Browser

When downloading an eBook your web browser (Internet Explore, Chrome) may prompt you to either Open or Save the eBook file. It is recommended to Open the file, which will launch Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.

Downloading an EBSCO Book

When downloading an EBSCO eBook you will be prompted to login to your EBSCOhost account which you can link to your USC credentials.

Use your USC credentials to login

Login page

To download the book you will need to accept an information release consent. This is an agreement between EBSCO and USC.

Select the 'borrowing' period. Note you need to agree to having downloaded Adobe Digital Editions before downloading can begin.

Adobe ID & Digital Editions

Once you have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions you will be prompted to create an Adobe ID. You will need this ID to authorise your device and download eBooks.

See the Adobe Digital Editions FAQs for more information.

Expired eBooks

At the end of the designated eBook download period, eBooks will remain on your  computer or device, but they will expire and become unreadable. To avoid confusion, you can delete the expired eBooks. If you still require the eBook, you can download it for another loan period.
